Shaken, Not Stirred

Like Ted Kennedy, whom he replaced as chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa has strong ideas about science and medicine. Unfortunately, the Democrat who now heads the committee with jurisdiction over NIHand FDA has a history of pushing an anti-science agenda. Most recently, he was responsible for language in the Senate healthcare bill that mandates coverage of prayer and alternative medicine.
