While specific delivery and long-term expression of gene therapy looks great on paper, its promise still is largely unfulfilled in the clinic. Advanced Tissue Sciences Inc. believes its technology may overcome past problems by transplanting three-dimensional pieces of genetically engineered and cultured tissue into patients for delivery of a recombinant gene product.
