Pharmacopeia: Success was fleeting

Pharmacopeia Inc., once touted as a chemistry service success story for achieving profitability, has concluded that the business can't be sustained. The company announced last week that the revenues from its chemistry service unit are no longer sufficient to support the service, and as a result, PCOP is looking for a home for its drug discovery expertise through a joint venture, a merger, or by acquisition.

PCOP spokesperson Sue Rodney told BioCentury that although the unit has 36 projects in the pipeline, "the pace of new business has slowed down, and the sales cycle is lengthening."
