Preempting salmonella

WASHINGTON - MS BioScience Inc. plans to begin sales in May of Preempt, a blend of 29 live, non-harmful bacteria naturally present in healthy adult fowl that will be used to preclude the growth of Salmonella in baby chickens' intestines.
The product, developed at the U.S. Agriculture Department and rushed through the approval process at USDA and FDA, is sprayed on newly hatched chicks, which ingest the substance through preening. Once in the gut, the microbes inhibit salmonella growth...
