Germany's road show

The German government, stepping up its drive to instigate a national biotech industry, last week sent a delegation to the U.S. to introduce American biotechnology companies and investors to the German initiatives.

In a conversation with BioCentury, Jürgen Rüttgers, federal minister of education, science, research and technology, discussed the government's goals for biotechnology, changes he has instituted at the ministry, and proposed changes in taxation aimed at improving the environment for entrepreneurial companies in Germany.
