George Rathmann, chairman, president and CEO of Icos (ICOS), is prepared to make his second personal investment in a biotech limited partnership vehicle. He plans to help Icos Clinical Partners L.P. meet its lofty goal of selling $100 million worth of partnership interests to private investors (see B18).

While the company declined to discuss the deal, citing the quiet period, a spokesperson indicated that Rathmann is likely to participate in the financing. Rathmann, who co-founded Amgen (AMGN) in 1980, invested in Amgen Clinical Partners L.P., which raised $75 million in 1987...
