Study finds benefit for statins in low-risk patients

According to a meta-analysis published in The Lancet, lowering LDL-C with statins reduced the risk of major vascular events in all patients, including those at lowest risk for such events. In the paper, researchers from the Cholesterol Treatment Trialists' Collaboration said the benefits of statins in the lowest risk groups exceed any known hazards, and therefore guidelines on statin use should be reviewed to potentially include these lower-risk populations. ...
