Europe closer to single patent system

The European Commission said member states resolved the last outstanding issue for the EU's future single patent system after concluding negotiations on the location for the Central Division of the Court of First Instance for the Unified Patent Court. The Unified Patent Court will have exclusive jurisdiction over actions related to the validity or infringement of a European patent. The seat of the court's Central Division will be located in Paris, with two specialized sections in London and Munich. The London section will be responsible for patent litigation on chemistry, which includes pharmaceuticals. The European single patent system is expected to take effect in early 2014. ...
