The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit upheld an earlier decision of the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware that VIAC's ViaCord cord banking subsidiary, CCEL, CBR Systems and CBAI's CorCell subsidiary did not infringe PharmaStem's U.S. Patents Nos. 5,004,681 and 5,192,553 covering the collection, cryopreservation and storage of hematopoietic stem cells from umbilical cord blood (see BioCentury Jan. 3, 2005).
