Producing hESCs without embryos

Two groups of researchers separately published papers that describe the reprogramming of differentiated human somatic cells to generate cells that resemble human embryonic stem cells (hESCs).
In a paper published in Science, researchers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and colleagues demonstrated that lentiviral transduction of human fibroblasts with genes expressing four transcription factors, Oct4, Sox2, Nanog and Lin28, was sufficient to generate pluripotent stem cells exhibiting many features characteristic of hESCs. ...
