The companies each received a $350,000 award from the Thiel Foundation’s Breakout Labs program. Cortexyme is conducting preclinical testing for drug candidates against an undisclosed pathogen "tied to neurodegeneration" to treat Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. G-Tech is developing a wireless, wearable electrocardiogram that senses muscle activity from the GI tract over several days, which the company says can help diagnose gastrointestinal disorders. EpiBone is developing its Living Bone Graft, which uses CT scans and the patient’s own cells to engineer the patient’s "own living bone" to fit in the desired location. The company said the patient will not experience tissue rejection and instead experience better regeneration and incorporation into the skeleton. ...
