HEMX announced that a Belgian trial has shown improvement in physical and cognitive functioning in patients with chronic fatigue syndrome. At the meeting of the American Association for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, HEMX reported on results of two open-label and one placebo-controlled 24-week trial in a total of 130 patients.
The trials used the Karnofsky Performance Score on activities of daily living, and exercise performance on a bicycle. The Karnofsky score improved from 53 to 76. A score of 80 describes a person who can carry out daily activities with effort, but continues to have limited signs of the illness. Bicycle testing showed improved oxygen uptake, from 1.16 liters/min to 1.48 liters/min. ...
