Alza, InterMune Pharmaceuticals Inc. deal

ITMN acquired worldwide exclusive rights to AZA’s Amphotec liposomal amphotericin B, which is marketed to treat invasive aspergillosis infections. AZA will receive a $9 million upfront license fee plus milestones based on sales and the development of Amphotec in combination with ITMN’s Actimmune interferon gamma-1b injection to treat systemic fungal diseases. Actimmune in combination with standard amphotericin B is in Phase II testing to treat cryptococcal meningitis. Amphotec had worldwide sales of about $4 million in 2000. ...
