Bone morphogenetic protein 9 (BMP9; GDF2)

Mouse studies suggest BMP9 could be useful for treating AD. In a mouse model of AD, intracerebroventricular infusion of BMP9 increased expression of procholinergic growth factors and decreased cholinergic neuron defects and b-amyloid (Ab) pathology compared with vehicle control infusion. Next steps could include studying the behavioral and cognitive effects of BMP9 infusion and testing a truncated form of BMP9 in additional mouse models of AD.
