Uridine phosphorylase 1 (UPP1)

Cell culture studies identified UPP1 inhibitors that could be useful for improving the efficacy of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) chemotherapy. In a human colon cancer cell line, the 2 lead inhibitors increased the antiproliferative effect of 5-FU compared with vehicle as measured by a 6- and 12-fold decrease in IC50 values. Next steps include evaluating the combination therapy in additional cancer cell lines to help determine for which indications it could be most effective.
