Mediator of cell motility 1 (MEMO1; MEMO)

Mouse and cell culture studies suggest inhibiting MEMO could help treat estrogen-dependent breast cancers. In a human breast cancer cell line, small interfering RNA-mediated knockdown of MEMO decreased estrogen-driven growth compared with no knockdown. In mice injected with human breast cancer cell lines, siRNA against MEMO prevented estrogen-induced tumor formation, whereas control siRNA did not. Next steps could include screening for and evaluating pharmacological inhibitors of MEMO in models of estrogen-dependent breast cancer.
