Mouse studies suggest a nonvirulent strain of Toxoplasma gondii could help treat cancer. In mouse models for ovarian carcinomas, injection of the nonvirulent T. gondii strain led to decreased tumor volumes and increased survival compared with saline injection. Next steps include evaluating the safety of the T. gondii therapy in animal models and testing it in human tumors.
