NADPH oxidase 2 (Nox2)-deficient, lupus-prone mice

Nox2-deficient, lupus-prone mice could be useful models for severe systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The mice were generated by crossing Nox2-deficient animals with mice that had a lupus-prone genetic background. The resulting mice had severe lupus symptoms including increased spleen weights, more severe renal pathology and high autoantibody levels compared with lupus-prone mice that expressed Nox2. Next steps could include using the mice to evaluate treatments for SLE.
