Deficiencies in regulatory dendritic cells may drive obesity and autoimmunity

A recently identified subclass of dendritic cells could link inflammation with metabolic syndrome and autoimmunity, and might represent an alternative target to T regulatory cells for controlling inflammation.

The cells, dubbed perf-DCs, express perforin 1 (PRF1), a pore-forming cytolytic protein that the cells use to selectively target inflammatory T cells. PRF1 is also found in the granules of NK cells. ...
