LA Cell generates cell-penetrating antibodies to target intracellular proteins

LA Cell Inc. is developing a new way of reaching the long sought-after goal of getting antibodies inside cells by chemically modifying the molecules. While the company believes it can expand the druggable universe of therapeutic mAbs to intracellular targets, one question is whether the modification will sink the PK advantage that antibodies enjoy.

The company was founded last year as a joint venture between Sorrento Therapeutics Inc. and the City of Hope - home of the technology's inventors Hua Yu, a professor in tumor immunotherapy and co-leader of the cancer immunotherapeutics program, and Andreas Herrmann, an associate research professor.
