Eosinophilic esophagitis

Thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP)

Mouse and human biopsy studies suggest targeting TSLP could help treat eosinophilic esophagitis. In a mouse model of eosinophilic esophagitis, Tslp-deficient mice had decreased disease symptoms after ovalbumin and antigen challenge compared with wild-type controls. In the mouse model, an anti-TSLP mAb decreased esophageal eosinophil levels compared with control IgG. In human esophageal biopsies, TSLP expression was increased in patients who have active eosinophilic esophagitis compared with control subjects or patients who have inactive disease. Next steps could include design and testing of anti-TSLP agents in additional animal models of eosinophilic esophagitis.
