Breast cancer

Tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-a)

Mouse studies suggest mAbs that target the transmembrane form of TNF-a could help treat breast cancer. mAbs against TNF-a have been tested in patients with solid tumors but have largely failed to show efficacy. In a mouse xenograft model for human breast cancer, a mAb that specifically targets the transmembrane form of TNF-a decreased tumor volume compared with a control mAb that did not bind TNF-a. Next steps could include evaluating the mAb in additional breast cancer models.
