Fibroblast growth factor 9 (FGF9; GAF)

Mouse studies suggest FGF9 could help stimulate hair regrowth. In a mouse model for wound-induced hair neogenesis, transgenic overexpression of Fgf9 in the epidermis increased hair follicle formation compared with normal Fgf9 expression. In mice deficient in Fgf9-producing gd T cells, follicle formation was lower than that in wild-type mice. Next steps include testing the effects of FGF9 on human skin.
