Peroxisome proliferation-activated receptor-g coactivator 1a isoform 4 (PPARGC1A4; PGC-1a4)

Mouse studies suggest upregulating PGC-1a4 could help increase muscle mass. In mice engineered to overexpress PGC-1a4 in skeletal muscle, muscle mass and strength were greater than those in wild-type controls. Next steps could include screening for small molecules designed to induce PGC-1a4 expression.
