MicroRNA-155 (miR-155)

In vitro and mouse studies suggest inhibiting miR-155 could help treat atherosclerosis. In an apolipoprotein E (Apoe)-deficient mouse model of atherosclerosis, miR-155 knockout decreased plaque size and macrophage numbers in atherosclerotic lesions compared with miR-155 expression. Next steps could include testing miR-155 inhibitors in additional models of atherosclerosis.
