Charity care scarcer at 340B hospitals

An analysis showed that over the last three years, an increasing number of 340B hospitals are providing minimal charity care to patients. The decline highlights a need to change the qualifications for 340B hospitals, according to one industry group.

Avalere Health LLC conducted the analysis on behalf of the Alliance for Integrity and Reform of 340B (AIR340B). The analysis showed that at 37% of the 1,732 hospitals the group sampled, charity care represented less than 1% of total patient costs.
