NHC unveils patient value rubric

The National Health Council introduced its Patient-Centered Value Model Rubric on Monday to help stakeholders incorporate patient perspectives into the design, testing and implementation of models that assess the value of new treatments.

In a document describing the rubric, NHC said that while other groups have said they incorporated patient input while developing value-based tools, it is not often apparent that "individuals or patient organizations were engaged throughout the creation of these frameworks or contributed to their development from conception." The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) and the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review (ICER) have developed value-based tools (see BioCentury, Nov. 2, 2015). ...
