CMS unveils pilot program to increase patient adherence

CMS announced plans to launch the Part D Enhanced Medication Therapy Management model, which will offer stand-alone Part D prescription drug plans in certain regions incentives to design and pilot new strategies to improve patient adherence and outcomes while reducing prescription drug costs. The model will launch on Jan. 1, 2017, and run for five years.

Participating plans will receive funding from CMS to identify and remove barriers to treatment compliance, ensure beneficiaries are receiving optimal therapies for their conditions and improve communication between prescribing physicians, pharmacists, caregivers and patients. ...
