Obama's FY15 budget gives slight bump to FDA, NIH
President Obama's FY15 budget proposal would slightly increase funding for FDA and NIH over the amount allocated to the agencies by the budget enacted for FY14. Obama requested $4.7 billion for FDA in FY15, including $2.6 billion in base appropriations -- taxpayer funding -- and $2.1 billion in user fees. According to Steve Grossman at the Alliance for a Stronger FDA, the budget would allocate $480 million in FY15 for FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER), up from $466 million in FY14; and $210 million in FY14 for the agency's Center for Biologics Evaluation & Research (CBER), down slightly from $211 million in FY14. FDA said it will release more details on the agency's budget this Friday. Obama's budget proposal also includes $30.2 billion for NIH in FY15, up from $29.9 billion allocated to the agency in FY14.
