HHS provides enrollee break out

Almost 2.2 million people enrolled in plans sold on federal and state exchanges from Oct. 1 through Dec. 28, 2013, according to a report released by HHS. About 1.8 million people enrolled in December alone, compared to 364,682 people who enrolled from Oct. 1, when the exchanges opened, through November.

HHS also reported that 24% of people that have selected a plan in 2013 are 18-34 years old, while 70% are 35-64 years old. The Kaiser Family Foundation has estimated that 40% of the enrollees will need to be 18-34 years old to maintain the balance in the risk pool. HHS said it is important to enroll young adults "to help to ensure a favorable risk mix," but the agency said these people are more likely to enroll towards the end of open enrollment period, which closes March 31. ...
