CIRM awards $42.4M to Sangamo, stem cell scientists

The California Institute for Regenerative Medicine awarded a total of $42.4 million on Tuesday to Sangamo BioSciences Inc. (NASDAQ:SGMO) and six stem cell scientists. Sangamo received $6.4 million under the second round of CIRM's Strategic Partnership Awards Initiative, and will use the funds to develop an undisclosed therapeutic for beta-thalassemia.
