House subcommittee sends drug tracing bill to full committee

The U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee's health subcommittee voted on Wednesday to send to the full committee a discussion draft of legislation that would create a national system for tracking and tracing pharmaceutical products. The bill would require manufacturers to track prescription drugs and ensure trading partners are authorized, starting January 1, 2015. The bill also includes a section that would require FDA within two years of implementation to conduct at least one pilot study on implementing unit-level traceability.
