Scotland launching center for trial stratification

The Scottish government is forming the Stratified Medicine Scotland Innovation Centre (SMS-IC) to evaluate genomic data and individual responses to treatments to identify strata of responders/non-responders and to predict adverse events, with the goal of implementing patient stratification in clinical trials. Interim Director Graeme Boyle said the center will focus on helping companies run "smart," stratified trials that could potentially eliminate the need for Phase IIb and/or Phase III trials, with the long-term goal of using stratification in trials to develop personalized treatments, as well as to help patients and/or physicians to prevent, identify and treat chronic diseases like diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis. ...
