EC wants faster approval of new antibiotics

The European Commission committed to implementing faster approval processes for new antibiotics as part of an action plan released this week to promote antibiotic R&D and mitigate the spread of antimicrobial resistance.
The commission said it plans to use "flexibility" in the current pharmaceutical legislation to grant rapid approval to new antibiotics and implement Fast Track procedures for the products. The EC added that it would work with stakeholders and EU member states to establish "adequate market and pricing conditions for new antibiotics." Details on the plan were not provided. ...
