GAVI commits $100M to supply meningitis vaccine

The Global Alliance for Vaccine Immunization (GAVI) committed $100 million to supply the MenAfriVac meningitis A vaccine in Cameroon, Chad and Nigeria. The vaccine is slated to be distributed in the countries next half. MenAfriVac is an existing vaccine optimized against strains of meningitis A that circulate in Africa. The vaccine, which costs about $0.67 a dose, was developed through the Meningitis Vaccine Project, a partnership between PATH and the World Health Organization, with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. ...
