Senate cloning vote deferred

Senate Republicans on Monday abandoned an effort to force a vote on anti-cloning legislation after it became clear that they could not muster the 60 votes needed for passage. The Republican leadership attempted to attach an amendment imposing a 6-month moratorium on all human cloning, including therapeutic cloning experiments, to unrelated legislation. The decision to avoid a vote on the amendment was taken after Sen. Majority Leader Thomas Daschle (D-S.D.) reiterated his commitment to schedule a vote on anti-cloning legislation early in 2002. ...
