UN report advocates ag biotech for poor nations

A United Nations report released Tuesday endorses the development and use of genetically modified foods, crops, and other organisms to alleviate hunger and poverty in developing countries. The Human Development Report 2001, commissioned by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), notes that environmental and health risks of GMOs must be addressed, but it stresses the potential for the technology to significantly reduce malnutrition, especially for poor farmers working marginal lands in sub-Saharan Africa. ...
