EU/US panel recommends mandatory biotech labels

An EU-US blue ribbon panel report to be released Monday recommends mandatory labeling of all foods that contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

The EU-US Biotechnology Consultative Forum was established in June and asked to prepare a report that could help decision makers on both sides of the Atlantic defuse international tensions over the regulation of agricultural biotechnology. The report states that consumers "should have the right of informed choice regarding the selection of what they want to consume. Therefore, at the very least, the EU and U.S. should establish content-based mandatory labeling requirements for finished products containing novel genetic material." ...
