Warning over GMO corn in Taco Bell tacos

Friends of the Earth said today that tests it commissioned indicate that genetically modified corn that has only been approved for use as animal feed has entered the human food chain.

FOE said that tests indicated the presence of Aventis Crop Science's StarLink Bt corn in Taco Bell brand taco shells sold in a grocery store. StarLink was approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for feed use only in 1998; the agency cited concerns about the potential allergenicity of the genetically modified corn. The tests were conducted by Genetic ID (Fairfield, Iowa), which stated that 1 percent of the corn in a sample provided by FOE was the StarLink variety. ...
