NAS report attacked in advance

A National Academy of Sciences report on the environmental impacts of plants genetically engineered to resist pests hasn't been released yet, but members of Congress and anti-biotech activists are already assailing it.

Reps. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) and Jack Metcalf (R-WA), co-sponsors of legislation that would require labeling of genetically modified foods, have accused the NAS of "numerous conflicts of interest" with regard to the report, which is scheduled to be released Wednesday. Kucinich is scheduled to lead a rally and protest on the sidewalk outside the NAS prior to release of the report. ...
