BIO, ag companies communications initiative

The Council for Biotechnology Information, a coalition of the Biotechnology Industry Organization ( S*BIO) and seven ag biotech companies, on Monday launched what they described as a major communications initiative to provide the public in the U.S. and Canada with information about the benefits of agricultural biotechnology and to respond to concerns raised by industry critics.

The Council will spend about $30 million on television and print advertising and as much as $20 million on other communications activities over the next three to five years, according to S*BIO President Carl Feldbaum. The Council has launched a website, www.whybiotech.com, and has established a toll-free telephone number for consumers to request additional information. ...
