J&J launches JLABS incubator in Toronto

Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) launched a JLABS incubator in Toronto, its first incubator outside the U.S. Based in the MaRS Discovery District, the incubator has relationships with six hospitals, including the University Health Network (Toronto, Ontario).

J&J said the incubator, dubbed JLABS @ Toronto, will initially house 22 companies and can accommodate up to 50. Resident biotechs include microbiome play Biotagenics Inc. (Toronto, Ontario), which is developing therapeutics and diagnostics for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and gene and cell therapy company Avrobio Inc.
