bioMerieux to acquire BioFire

Diagnostics company bioMerieux S.A. (Euronext:BIM) will acquire BioFire Diagnostics Inc. (Salt Lake City, Utah) for $450 million in cash. bioMerieux also will assume an undisclosed amount of BioFire's net debt. BioFire develops and markets in vitro tests for its multiplex PCR FilmArray system. The company markets its FilmArray Respiratory Panel in the U.S and EU to detect respiratory viruses and bacteria, and its FilmArray Blood Culture Identification Panel in the U.S. to detect and identify organisms that can cause sepsis and selected antibiotic resistance genes. bioMerieux said it expects BioFire to generate about $70 million in sales for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2013.
