FDA approves flu vaccine made with baculovirus expression system

FDA said it approved Flublok from Protein Sciences Corp. (Meriden, Conn.) to prevent seasonal influenza in adults 18 through 49 years of age. The agency said Flublok is the first influenza vaccine approved in the U.S. that is manufactured using a baculovirus expression system and recombinant DNA technology, instead of chicken eggs.
