Bayer withdraws Baycol

Bayer (FSE:BAYG) withdrew its cholesterol lowering drug Baycol/Lipobay cerivastatin worldwide, except in Japan. The company said it has received reports of side effects relating to rhabdomyolysis (muscular weakness), especially in patients simultaneously receiving gemfibrozil, a fibric acid derivative. Combined therapy of the two products is contraindicated. BAYG said that gemfibrozil is not available in Japan. ...
