Monsanto recalls Canadian canola

Monsanto Canada (Winnipeg, Manitoba) announced Wednesday that it is voluntarily recalling all Quest variety herbicide-tolerant canola seeds and offering replacement seed to farmers. Quest canola seeds are supposed to contain a genetic modification, or event, designated GT-73, that confers resistance to Monsanto's Roundup herbicide. Some lots of the Quest seeds distributed in Canada contained another Roundup Ready event, GT-200. Monsanto said it does not know how the GT-200 entered the supply chain. The company emphasized that GT-200, which has been approved in Canada, poses no health or environmental risks. It does, however, threaten export markets because it has not been approved in the U.S., Europe and other Canadian export markets. ...
