Monsanto recalls Canadian canola

Monsanto Canada (Winnipeg, Manitoba) announced Wednesday that it is voluntarily recalling all Quest variety herbicide-tolerant canola seeds and offering replacement seed to farmers. Quest canola seeds are supposed to contain a genetic modification, or event, designated GT-73, that confers resistance to Monsanto's Roundup herbicide. Some lots of the Quest seeds distributed in Canada contained another Roundup Ready event, GT-200. Monsanto said it does not know how the GT-200 entered the supply chain. The company emphasized that GT-200, which has been approved in Canada, poses no health or environmental risks.
