Monsanto and Aventis settle two suits

MON and Aventis CropScience (Lyon, France), an AVE business, settled two pending suits regarding insect-resistance and transgenic cotton technology. According to MON, the companies settled a suit filed by MON in March in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri claiming that Aventis CropSciences's insect-resistance patents are invalid.

Under the settlement, Aventis CropScience will incorporate MON's Roundup Ready herbicide tolerance and Bollgard insect-protected cotton technologies in its FiberMax cotton varieties in the U.S. Aventis CropScience granted MON a non-exclusive license to its insect-resistance patents related to Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) genes, and the companies will cross-license their transgenic cotton patents. ...
