Santarus' antibiotic meets travelers' diarrhea endpoint

Santarus Inc. (NASDAQ:SNTS) said oral rifamycin SV MMX met the primary endpoint of reducing median time to last unformed stool vs. placebo in a Phase III trial in 264 patients with travelers' diarrhea (46 vs. 68 hours, p=0.0008). Rifamycin SV MMX was generally well tolerated with headache, diarrhea, infectious diarrhea, constipation, amoebic dysentery and gastrointestinal infection reported as the most common treatment-emergent adverse events.
