New player is shuffling the deck

Energy BioSystems Corp. has been quietly using its gene shuffling technology to enhance the efficacy of enzymes to desulfurize petrochemicals. The company now believes its directed evolution technology can be adapted to use in pharmaceuticals and agriculture, where it would compete with Diversa Corp., Maxygen Inc. and Applied Molecular Evolution Inc.
