Why Sanofi moved beyond vendor deal with computational specialist Schrödinger

Sanofi is hoping a closer collaboration between its scientists and those from Schrödinger Inc. will enable the pharma to take better advantage of the computational software company's expertise to more quickly identify candidates for tough targets.

Schrödinger develops and provides suites of computational tools for small molecules and biologics that help companies from drug design and virtual screening through to lead discovery and optimization, including potency and solubility. The company has long provided its suites to teams of in-house chemists and modelers at biotechs and pharmas, but the relationships generally have been that of a typical software vendor, where Schrödinger provides software support. ...
